Andersen-Style Multi-Stage Cascade Impactors
The Andersen eight-stage non-viable and six-stage and two-stage viable samplers are regarded as the “gold standards” of airborne particle sizing instruments. The non-viable model segments particles from 10 micrometers to 0.4 micrometers aerodynamic equivalent diameter and collects the remaining submicron particles upon a final filter. The viable multi-stage cascade impactors collect material derived from biological origins and deposit upon agar-filled petri dishes for subsequent culture growth. The large diameter collection substrates (nominal 100 mm) and the high sample flow rate (28.3 lpm) enables representative collection and large surface area for easier examination.
